Certified Laboratory-Grown Diamonds

Lab-Grown Diamonds in Kraków — Certified Brilliance & Ethical Science

Laboratory-grown describes the creation origin of a diamond, not its physical structure, optical brilliance, or quality grading. At BigDIAMOND in Kraków, we present certified lab-grown diamonds alongside mined stones, offering transparent gemmological documentation for every piece.

Gemmological guidance on diamond origins

Always verify that the certificate number, microscopic laser inscription, millimetre dimensions, and 4Cs grading belong to the specific diamond. Origin (lab-grown vs natural) is documented transparently and should never be assumed from price or appearance alone.

Gemmological Science

How do lab-grown diamonds compare to natural diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds grown under advanced CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) or HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) environments that recreate natural mantle conditions.

To a gemmologist, a lab-grown diamond displays identical optical dispersion, adamantine lustre, crystal cubic lattice, and thermal conductivity to a mined diamond. They are not cubic zirconia or moissanite simulants; they are 100% genuine crystallized carbon.

Only specialised spectroscopic laboratory instruments can identify growth sector markers that distinguish laboratory origin from geological origin. This origin is disclosed clearly on every certificate and laser-inscribed on the diamond girdle.

Chemical Composition

Pure carbon (C) identical in both types.

Hardness & Durability

10 on the Mohs hardness scale — the hardest known natural substance.

Optical Brilliance & Fire

Refractive index 2.42 with identical scintillation and light dispersion.

Selection Criteria

How to choose a lab-grown diamond for a ring or pendant

Evaluate the stone using the universal 4Cs framework and consider the mounting style that enhances its brilliance.

  • Cut quality is paramount: prioritise "Ideal" or "Excellent" cuts to maximise brilliance and light return.
  • Colour grades D, E, and F provide icy colourless brilliance in white gold or platinum settings.
  • Clarity grades VS1 and VVS2 offer guaranteed eye-clean purity with zero visible inclusions.
  • Compare face-up millimetre measurements alongside carat weight to assess true visual spread.
  • Inspect the diamond in person under varying natural and artificial light conditions in our Kraków showroom.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds possess the exact same chemical, optical, and physical properties as mined diamonds. They score 10 on the Mohs hardness scale and feature the same refractive index of 2.42.

Are lab-grown diamonds the same as cubic zirconia or moissanite?

No. Cubic zirconia and moissanite are diamond simulants — different chemical materials with inferior hardness and different optical properties. Lab-grown diamonds are 100% pure crystallized carbon diamonds.

Do lab-grown diamonds come with independent certificates?

Yes. Every lab-grown diamond above 0.30 ct at BigDIAMOND is certified by independent gemmological laboratories such as IGI or GIA and features a microscopic laser inscription on the girdle.

Will a lab-grown diamond pass a diamond tester?

Yes. Standard thermal and electrical conductivity diamond testers identify lab-grown diamonds as genuine diamonds because their physical properties are identical.

Can lab-grown diamonds be mounted in bespoke jewellery?

Absolutely. We regularly mount certified lab-grown diamonds into bespoke engagement rings, solitaire pendants, and wedding bands handcrafted at our Starowiślna atelier.

Why choose a lab-grown diamond over a mined diamond?

Lab-grown diamonds allow clients to acquire significantly larger carat sizes, higher clarity, and superior colour grades for the same investment, backed by complete conflict-free traceability.
